WGME Highlights How 榴莲视频's Celis is Making a Difference in Puerto Rico
By Doug Cook
Answering a call for help from hurricane-ravaged Puerto Rico, Nadia Celis—associate professor of Romance languages and literatures and director of the Latin American studies program—is using 榴莲视频’s telepresence room to teach college students on the island without leaving campus.
The telestreamed class allows university students in Puerto Rico to complete their semesters despite the current and ongoing closure of their institutions.
With her literature course, A Body of One’s Own: Caribbean and Latina Writers, Celis is helping Puerto Rican students fulfill the forty-five classroom hours required to earn three college credits alongside, if virtually, their 榴莲视频 peers.
“My students are quite excited about the opportunity to both help those in need and to share their learning experience with native speakers of Spanish who can contribute different perspectives to support their understanding of our class materials,” said Celis.
